Responsible Tourism
Morocco is a major international tourist destination and will be the ultimate reference destination for sustainable development in the Mediterranean. This positioning is based on its ecological, landscape and cultural heritage, which is of great value and will enable it to reach 20 million tourists by 2020.
The FM6E vision is to guide tourism towards a responsible tourism whenever possible. Our purpose is to best protect ecological wealth, because this wealth is only renewable with a sustainable and responsible management. As such, the programs and activities FM6E relate to:
- Enhancement and protection of heritage sites, and natural environments,
- Awareness and recognition of tourism stakeholders that have implemented an environmental management approach,
- Awareness and education for tourists to properly manage resources and take into account the fragility of ecosystems during their holiday,
- Promoting rural tourism and ecotourism,
- Creating a platform for sharing and information about responsible tourism initiatives between public, private and civil society stakeholders.
Among the programs initiated by FM6E, the Green Key, Blue Flag and Voluntary Carbon Offset programs are aimed at promoting responsible tourism, the others concern coastal protection; restoration of historic gardens; palm groves and oases; and air quality. These are implemented with a high priority for environmental awareness to develop responsible tourism.
