In 1999, His Majesty King Hassan II entrusted HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa the primary mission, to watch over the tourist beaches that are the most vulnerable to human activity. Operation "Let Our Beaches Smile" was born and had great success with citizens. To channel this collective enthusiasm to expand efforts, His Majesty King Mohammed VI created the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in 2001 and entrusted its Presidency to Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

Since its inception the Foundation has developed programs and innovative projects (Qualit'Air, Flowering Cities, etc.) and introduced four programs in Morocco FEE (Blue Flag, Young Reporters for the Environment, Eco-Schools and Green Key), thanks to the mobilization and commitment of public and private partners.

Partnership between the Foundation for Environmental Education and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection:

Just over a year after its creation, in July 2002 the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection joined the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) based in Copenhagen, Denmark. This membership, wished by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, illustrates the commitment to make environmental protection everyone's business.

Through this partnership, the mission that the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection has established is to accelerate the awareness of environmental impacts by human activities and thus enable everyone to develop the attitudes and skills necessary for sustainable development.

FEE's mission is relayed in each member country by a single NGO that is the exclusive operator in charge of implementing its various programs. In Morocco, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection represents FEE.
